Intermediate Muscles Flashcards
What are the 3 intermediate muscles?
Serratus Posterior Superior, Serratus Posterior Inferior, and Serratus Anterior.
What is the origin of the Serratus Posterior Superior?
Lower ligamentum nuchae, and spinous processes C7-T3.
What is the origin of the Serratus Posterior Inferior?
Spinous processes T11-L3.
What is the origin of the Serratus Anterior?
Partial origin at the medial spine of scapula.
What is the insertion of the Serratus Posterior Superior?
Intercostals (Ribs) 2 to 5.
What is the insertion of the Serratus Posterior Inferior?
Lower borders of intercostals (ribs) 9 to 12.
What is the insertion of the Serratus Anterior?
Intercostals (Ribs) 1-8.
What are the actions of the Serratus Posterior Superior?
To raise the ribs during inspiration.
What are the actions of the Serratus Posterior Inferior?
To lower the ribs during expiration.
What are the actions of the Serratus Anterior?
Laterally rotates and abducts the scapula.
What innervates the Serratus Posterior Superior and Inferior?
Anterior rami of the thoracic nerves.
What innervates the Serratus Anterior?
Long thoracic nerve
