Bones Of the Pelvic Region and Thigh Flashcards
A spherically shaped knob on the proximal end of the femur that articulates with the acetabulum of the pelvic bone.
Head of the femur.
A cylindrical part of the bone that connects the head to the shaft of the femur.
Neck of the femur.
Attachment site for gluteus medium, gluteus minimis, piriformis, superior gemellus, inferior gemellus, obturator internist, and obturator externals muscles.
Greater trochanter.
Attachment site for the iliopsoas muscle.
Lesser trochanter.
A distinct vertical ridge on the posterior femoral shaft; attachment site for vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, adductor muscles, and short head of the biceps femoral muscles.
Linea aspera.
Attachment site for the pectineus muscle.
Pectineal line.
Both condyles lie at the distal aspect of the femur and articulates with the tibia to form the knee joint.
Medial and lateral condyles.
Lies superior to the medial condyle; attachment site for the vertical fibers of the adductor magnus muscle.
Adductor tubercle.
Rounded eminences on the medial and lateral surfaces of either condyle; attachment site for the collateral ligaments of the knee joint.
Medial and Lateral epicondyles.
The largest sesame is bone in the body. Formed in the tendon of the quadriceps femoris muscle and covers and protects the anterior region of the knee joint.
Patella.
