What is meant by the ambient dose equivalent? (3 marks)
It is the absorbed dose at a particular depth on the ICRU sphere.
Measured at the opposite direction from the incident radiation.
It is a standardised way of defining dose measurements.
What is the ICRU sphere? (4 marks)
It is a 0.3 m^3 sphere of tissue equivalent material, with a density of 1000 kg/m^3.
It has an isotropic response and is used to define dose measurements such as the ambient dose equivalent.
What is the difference between H(10) and H(0.07)? And when are they used? (3 marks)
They are both ambient dose equivalents, but measured at 10 mm and 0.07 mm.
10 mm is used for applications such as WB measurements. 0.07 mm is used for skin dose (extremities) and areas such as mammography.
