What is the purpose of inbasket?
secure messaging system within Epic that
allows caregivers to communicate information regarding patients.
When will folders in in-basket appear? What are some information the folders give you?
Folders will only appear when you have a message of
that type. Bold folders indicate that they contain at least one unread
message and the number in parentheses indicates how many new messages
you have.
What type of message is not part of the patient’s record?
staff message
What are some things that staff message contains?
related messages, such as downtime, upgrades, or coding questions

What is pools?
Pools in Epic are a way to communicate and share work amongst
a group of people who work in the same location or have similar job
functions. Individuals can take responsibility
What is the search function
look for messages that you may have removed and
now want to go back and retrieve.
What is attach?
grant access to your In Basket to another user who
may be covering for you.
What is out of contact
it allows a covering clinician to
have access to their messages only for a specified period of time.
What is preference?
allows you to change the formatting of your In Basket and
personalize your view.
What is quick actions?
feature that allows you to save a set of actions
that you often take for a specific message type. We won’t be addressing this
in today’s lesson.
How does Result Note Folder Work?
Providers receive
results of tests that they ordered, then create a result note to send to
the nurse with instructions or comments.
What kind of encounter can you do to address results to a patient?
Telephone encounter
When you finished everything for a message what do you need to do to get rid of it in the in-basket?

What does the patient call folder consist of?
When a patient calls the clinic for advice, the recipient of the call creates a telephone
encounter, like we did earlier for Nadir. If further follow-up is needed, these
messages are routed to another user or a pool of users.
What is an indicator that a message is a pool message?
The question mark and baton icon on the left side indicates that these
are pool messages. If there is no question mark or baton, it is a message directly sent to you.
What should you do if you are working on a message in a pool?
Take responsibility
When you take a baton what will it change to?
The baton will go from a baton with a negative to a baton with a positive
What can you do to see who is taking responsibility for a baton?
Hover over the baton
What do you do if you can’t complete the work for the message?
On the tool bar click put back or click on your plus baton to put it back so someone else can take responsibility for that message
Can you done a message if you know that the provider will respond back to it?
Yes, because when the provider responds back, you will get an inbasket message
What is another way to see some of your in-basket messages
Schedule screen on the right there are card view
Does card view have all in-basket messages?
No
Where do RX request messages come from?
MyAdvocateAurora portal, from a retail pharmacy, or from the patient calling
the clinic to make the request.
