Immune Tolerance Flashcards
Peripheral Tolerance
tolerance established in secondary lymphoid tissues.
occurs because central tolerance is imperfect & allows some self-reactive lymphocytes to mature
Central Tolerance
tolerance established in primary lymphoid tissues by negative selection
What are the types of self tolerance?
- Central Tolerance
2. Peripheral Tolerance
Immunologic Tolerance
failure of immune system to respond to an antigen.
where do we mostly see immunologic tolerance?
in dogs!! occasionally in cats/horses. never in ruminants
Immunologic Ignorance
occurs when self antigens don’t enter 2ndary lymphoid tissues in sufficient concentrations to activate CD4 cells
Activation-Induced Cell Death occurs when..
Autoantigens are present in very high concentrations and can activate lymphocytes.
The repeated activation of lymphocytes causes this reaction via apoptosis.
Induced Anergy is
a state of non-responsiveness to Ag.
Induced Treg Cell Differentiation occurs when
CD4 cells recognize Ag in the absence of costimulatory signals
