In a healthcare setting, it is critical that Health Coaches work within their scope of practice by helping clients:

A Health Coach who works for a healthcare provider must:
- Adhere to HIPAA guidelines
- Abide by all company disclaimers, waivers, and agreements
- Use and follow informed consent documents
- Follow all guidelines and protocols regarding electronic medical records and client notes
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA):

- Protects confidentiality and security of healthcare information
- Helps the healthcare industry control administrative costs
- Provides a means for people to access health records
- Provides more control over how health info is used
