How Successfully Dod The Government Mobilise Germany For WW2? Flashcards
What was phase 1?
Point: introduction of the war economy in 1939
Evidence: 1941 55% German workforce doing military related work
Analysis: this shows how quickly Germany were able to transform their factories and teach workers how to operate new machinery therefore they were pretty successful however there was a lack of central control and organisation so it wasn’t as efficient as it could’ve been.
What was phase 2?
Point: Albert Speer transformed economy
Evidence: appointed in 1942 he focused single products in factory’s and excluded skilled labourers from military service
Analysis: this means that factory’s for very good at producing a certain good making them higher quality and more efficient because they’re only focusing on one thing. Skilled labourers were also allowed to work which meant the products produced were high quality too.
What was phase 3?
Point: goebells total war declaration
Evidence: happened in 1943 when Germany were losing so they got everyone to contribute even women allowed to work
Analysis: this shows Germany must not have mobilised themselves well because they are getting desperate at this point and so went against their own ideologies like women working. And of those women only 1/3 million actually worked showing the German people didn’t want to do it themselves therefore mobilisation wasn’t very successful.
