How Did Lives Of People Living Under Nazi Rule Change 1939-45? Flashcards
What shortages did they experience?
Point: war economy lead to rationing
Evidence: people were fed but with poor quality food
Analysis: this shows Germany was weak and so had to ration and the German people took the impact of that which meant that they were weaker because they weren’t having healthy diets which meant they suffered shortages.
What changed for women?
Point: more women in workforce
Evidence: 1941 1.5million women in workforce
Analysis: women were usually doing
domestic duties and now the German workforce was strained and desperate so women were allowed to take the place of men and experience what their life was like which was a huge change.
What changed for children?
Point: children evacuated from major cities
Evidence: all under 14s eligible for evacuation in some form but over had to go to camps as part of hitler youth
Analysis: many children had to leave the only home they’d ever know without their parents at a very young age so their lives were changed drastically while over 14s were being taught to be the next wave of soldiers for the periods they were in camps so they’re life was completely regulated and controlled in there however only 15% actually went in Berlin due to the strictness so if didn’t effect everyone but the majority.
What changed for forced labourers?
Point: nazi paranoia increased use of
terror
Evidence: 1944 7.6million foreign workers increased forced labour
Analysis: they were forced to work long and hard hours for a country they weren’t from therefore their lives were changed to complete work in harsh conditions all of the time.
