Hormones Flashcards
Learn about hormones
Promotes long bones
Stimulates body growth through protein sysnthesis, stimulates lipolysis, stimulates secretion of IGF-1, inhibits action of insulin on carbohydrates, and lipid metabolism
Growth hormone or (STH) Somatotropic Hormone
Stimulates adrenal cortex to produce glucocorticoids
Maintains size of zona fasiculata and zona reticularis of cortex
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)
Stimulates Production of thyroid hormones by thyroid follicular cells, maintain size of follicular cells, increase in metabolism
THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE (TSH)
Thyroid hormones
What is T3 and T4?
T3 - triiodothyronine
T4 - thyroxine
Stimulates the ovary to produce grafian follicle
In male, it regulates spermatogenesis in testis
(FSH) FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE
stimulates ovulation in the maturing graafian follicle and formation of ovarian corpus lureum
(LH) LUTEINIZING HORMONE
Stimulates prodn of estrogen and progesterone by ovary
(LH) LUTEINIZING HORMONE
Stimulates testosterone production by testis
(LH) LUTEINIZING HORMONE
Stimulates production and maintains milk secretion in lactating mammary gland

Skin pigmentation ( melanin)
(MSH) MELANOCYTE STIMULTING HORMONE
Stimulates milk ejection in lactating females
Contarction of uterus at parturition for fetal expulsion
Oxytocin
Maintenance of body water through reabsorption
