HomeoStasis: Praticle~ Reaction time. Flashcards
1
Q
What is the method for this practicle?
A
- We need 2 people, Person 1 and Person 2.
- Person 2: Measures reaction time of person 1.
1) Person 1 sits on a stool with good upright posture.
2) Person 1 places forearm of their dominant arm across the table with their hand overhanging the edge.
3) Person 2 holds a ruler vertically and the 0cm mark should be between persons 1 thumb and first finger.
4) Person 2 drops the ruler at a random time and person 1 has to catch the ruler as quickly with their thumb and first finger.
5) Person 2 records the measurement on the ruler that is above Persons 1 thumb.
6) Person 1 has a short rest and this is repeated multiple time to find the mean and we can use a conversion table.
Two people switches. - allows us to see if 2 people have different reaction times.

Q
What is the independent variable?
A
- Changed.
- Person having their reaction time tested.
- Effect of a person practice.
- Depends on the hand used.
- Chemicals.
Problem: Could be additional chemicals which may affect the reaction time. - As chemicals could have something we need to check the person if they have any medical issues.

Q
What is the dependant variable?
A
- Variable that is measured.
-
4
Q
What is the control variable?
A
- Variable that you keep the same.
- Starting distance between the thumb and first finger should be constant.
- Always measure the ruler at the top of the thumb.
- Keep the conditions of the classroom the same.
- E.g: Lighting and background noise.
- As this could affect our dependant variable.
