What is contraception?
- Different ways to prevent fertilisation.

What is the contraception pill and what are the advantages and if so disadvantages?
oral contraceptives
Contains hormones which prevent the body from producing FSH.
Advantages:
- Highly effective when taken correctly.
Disadvantage:
- Must be taken everyday as if a women forgets there is a chance of pregnancy.
- Certain pills have the risk of side effects.
- Include: Risk of breast cancer or blood clots.
What is another form of hormonal contraception?
- Implant, Skin Patch, Injection
- Contains Progesterone- Stops eggs from maturing and or being released.
Advantage: More convenient then taking a daily pill.
Implants: Last for 3 years.
Injection: Lasts Thirteen weeks.
Patch: Lasts for about a week.
Disadvantages:
- Can have side effects.

What are the disadvantages of both the pill and other hormonel forms of contraception?
- None of these protect against sexually transmitted Infections.
- E.gL HIV.
What is the third form of hormonal contraception?
- Barrier method.
- E.g: Condums + Diaphrgram.
- Prevents the sperm from reaching an egg,
- Effective if used properly.
Advantages: Do not use hormones, No side effects, Condoms reduce the risk of STI’s.
Disadvantages:
- Condoms can break or slip off.
Both Condoms and Diaphragm are more effective when used with spermicide gel = Kills + disables sperm + Reduces chances of fertilisation.
What is the forth form of hormonal contraception?
- Intrauterine Device (IUD or coil).
- Prevent an embryo from implanting.
- Some Coils: Release hormones to reduce chances of fertilisation.
- HIGHLY EFFECTIVE- Can prevent pregnancy for up to 10 years.
- Few Side effects.
- Disadvantage:
- Does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
What is sterilisation?
- Surgical forms of contraception.
- Case of women: Prevents egg from reaching the uterus.
- Case of men: Prevents sperm leaving the penis.
- HIGHLY EFFECTIVE.
- Very difficult to reverse so a person has to be certain that they never want children before they go ahead.
Disadvantage:
- Some forms does not protect people from STI.

What is the final form of contraception?
- Abstaining from sexual intercourse during the time after ovulation.
- Natural form of contraception.
- Disadvantages:
- Hard to tell when a women has ovulated so makes natural form of contraception difficult.
- Does not protect against STI.
What opinions do people have on contraception?
- Catholic Church: All contraception is unethical apart from natural methods.
- Person’s right to choose which form is best for them.
- People think using condoms reduces risk of STI.
