Ecology: Biotic and Abiotic Factors> Flashcards
What are the biotic factors?
= AValiablilty of food.
= Arrival of a new predator.
= Competition.
= Arrival of new pathogen.
What is the first biotic factor?
- Avaliability of food.
- ## Falls: Number of animals in community falls.
What is the second biotic factor?
- Arrival of a new predator.
- Cause population of a prey species to fall.
- Affect existing predators E;g: Competing for same prey.
What is the third biotic factor?
Competition.
- if a species is outcompeted the population can fall and numbers are no sufficient to breed and the species can become extinct.
What is the final biotic factor?
- New Pathogens.
-
What are the abiotic factors?
= Light intensity. = Temperature. = PH and mineral of soil. = Wind. = Co2 and o2 concentration levels.
What is the first abiotic factor?
- Light intensity.
- Plants need light for photosynthesis or they will grow slowly.
- ## If plants grow more slowly animals which feed on these plants won’t have enough food.
What is the second abiotic factor?
- Temperature.
- Cause distribution of species to change.
E.g: Animals could migrate + Plant species may dissapear.
What is the third abiotic factor?
= PH and mineral of the soil.
= plants cannot grow in soil that is to alkali and acidic.
= Plants need certain minerals to grow.
What is the fourth abiotic factor?
=Wind.
=
What is the fith abiotic factor?
= Co2 and oxygen concentration.
= Photosynthesis.
= Respiration.
