What is cholecystitis?
Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, often caused by gallstones blocking the bile ducts.
What causes cholecystitis?
: It is commonly caused by gallstones, but can also result from bile duct problems, tumors, serious illness, or certain infections.
What are the signs and symptoms of cholecystitis?
Symptoms include severe pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, nausea, vomiting, and tenderness over the gallbladder.
What are the complications of cholecystitis?
Complications include gallbladder rupture, infection, and inflammation spreading to other parts of the body.
What is the radiographic appearance of cholecystitis?
Radiographic appearance may show gallbladder distension, thickened gallbladder wall, and pericholecystic fluid.
What imaging modalities are used to diagnose cholecystitis?
Ultrasound is the primary imaging modality. CT scans and HIDA scans can also be used.
What is cholelithiasis?
Cholelithiasis is the formation of gallstones in the gallbladder
What causes cholelithiasis?
Causes include high cholesterol or bilirubin in bile,
gallbladder not emptying properly, obesity, and certain medications.
Obstruction to the outflow of bile due to organisms.
What are the signs and symptoms of cholelithiasis?
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Jaundice.
What are the complications of cholelithiasis?
- Cholecystitis
- Pancreatitis
- Bile duct obstruction.
- Cholangitis
What is the radiographic appearance of cholelithiasis?
Gallstones may appear as radiopaque structures in the gallbladder on X-ray or ultrasound.
What imaging modalities are used to diagnose cholelithiasis?
Ultrasound is the preferred method. CT scans and MRI can also be used.
What are hepatobiliary tumors?
These are tumors that occur in the liver, gallbladder, or bile ducts.
What causes hepatobiliary tumors?
- Causes can include chronic liver disease, hepatitis infection, cirrhosis, genetic conditions, and exposure to certain toxins.
What are the signs and symptoms of hepatobiliary tumors?
- Abdominal pain
- Weight loss
- Jaundice,
- Palpable mass in the abdomen.
