Perkin Warbeck Rebellions

treaty of Etaples: peace between England and France included a clause that Charles VIII would no longer give support to Warbeck

- perkin sailed to Scotland
- got the support of James IV
- got Lady Catherine Gordon’s hand in marriage

the Magnus Intercursus Treaty: provided for a renewal of trade between England and the Netherlands
- also said that neither country would aid the other rebels, added to try to remove support for Warbeck’s claim

Scots invade England in support of Warbeck - little success so returned to Scotland

Treaty of perpetual peace:
- the first attempt to end the conflict between England and Scotland for over 170 years
- marriage was agreed between King James IV and and Margaret Tudor (Henry’s daughter)

new tax to raise money to defend the border with Scotland against a further invasion in support of Perkin Warbeck
May - June 1497
the people of Cornwall rebelled against the tax for the defence of the Scottish border + a force of Cornishmen began a march to London
June 1497
- cornish rebels reached Kent seeking support but were attacked by the Earl of Kent
- leaders were captured + hanged
July 5th, 1497
Henry threatened Scotland to relinquish Perkin Warbeck with the threat of war - Warbeck surrendered
October 5th, 1497
Perkin Warbeck captured
