Hematopoietic Tumors (Lymphoma) Flashcards
What is the most common treatment for lymphoma in canines?
Multi-agent chemotherapy;
CHOP protocol
Cyclophosphamide (per os/inj.)
Hydroxydaunorubicin (Doxorubicin)
Oncovin (or Vincristine)
Prednisolone
If we have hypercalcemia in a lymphoma patient that is persisting and clinically significant, how should we add to our treatment plan?
Iv fluids and diuretics
Prednisolone
Biphosphonates
Calcitonin
What dogs should we NOT treat lymphoma with TANOVEA-CA1?
WHWT and use with caution in other terrier breeds!!
What is the preferred treatment for lymphoma in the feline patient?
Multi-agent chemotherapy;
COP (same as canine, without the DOX—>similar results)
How do we treat cats with low-grade small cell alimentary lymphoma
AS WELL AS
Dogs with indolent/low-grade lymphomas?
Chlorambucil and prednisolone
*in dogs, can add Cyclophosphamide can sub for chlorambucil
**in dogs, if confined to the spleen or a solitary lymph node, surgery is also an option
When would we use Radiation therapy in lymphoma?
In the case of localized disease (i.e. nasal lymphoma)
- note that it’s difficult for whole body therapy and multicentric lymphoma
How can anatomical location of lymphoma be a negative prognostic factor?
Diffuse alimentary lymphoma, leukemia, and hepatosplenic forms have a poor prognosis
How do we define lymphoid leukemia?
Leukemia, as proliferation of neoplasticism cells in the bone marrow
What do cats with ALL often test positive for?
FeLV
Clinical signs for ALL?
Lethargy, weight loss, intermittent pyrexia, hepatosplenomegaly,neuro signs, anemia, TCP, leukopenia
What is the major cell type in CLL?
T-cell lineages
What treatment is most effective in CLL?
Chlorambucil and prednisolone
What happens to our ALB when globulins elevate?
Drops
How do we diagnose MM?
Bone marrow analysis (demonstrate plasmacytosis);
Monoclonal gammopathy;
Skeletal rads
How do we treat MM?
Melphalan with prednisolone
