Heart Failure Flashcards
cardiac reserve
hearts ability to increase cardiac output when needed ex running
cardiac output
the amount of blood pumped from ventricles out in 1 min
Heart rate
How many times heart is pumping
Ejection fraction
% of blood that is pumped out
HF will cause bradycardia or tachycardia?
tachycardia because you wont have a good contraction so you’ll have a decreased cardiac output
HF will cause an increase or decrease in preload/afterload
increase
symptoms of diastolic failure
SOB, crackles, DJV, congestion to atria
if you have a decreased cardiac output what is your hr going to be?
increased
Left sided HF s/s
Respiratory crackles, dizziness, pulmonary congestion, cough, frothy sputum, increased pulse (120 or higher)
Right sided HF s/s
JVD, liver enlargement, nausea, decreased appetite-vomiting, peripheral edema
Which arrhythmia is most common cause of HF?
Afib
s/s of pulmonary edema
frothy sputum, crackles, labored breathing, dyspnea, SOB, feeling of impending doom, cool clammy skin
HF in infants could be related to?
hypokalemia, severe anemia, rheumatic fever, myocarditis
HF s/s in infants
pallor, excessive perspiration, pallor, cyanosis, dyspnea, tachycardia
