What is the definition of maximum strength?
The maximum force that can be developed in a muscle group of muscles during a single maximal contractions
What is the definition of obesity?
an accumulation of excess fat to an extent that it may impair health
what are the causes of obesity ?
lack of exercise work, transport
poor diet bad nutrition, over consumption, lack of understanding
social economics
what are the risks of obesity?
angina heart attacks chd depression atherosclerosis osteoporosis cancer diabetes strokes
how to prevent obesity?
5x30 minute moderate exercise
healthy balanced diet
2 hours of pe per week
knowledge of fat cell created - 0-2 years puberty
what are carbs ?
stored in the muscles and liver as glucose
once capacity is exceeded, excess is turned into fats
glucose then released as energy for exercise
what is the food source for carbs?
simple- sugars and jams sweets fruit
complex- potatoes pasta bread nuts
what are fats ?
source of energy
saturated (bad) HDL - lifts cholesterol
monounsaturated- found in nuts reduce cholesterol
polyunsaturated- found in soya beans, sun flowers and corn oils
what is the food source of fats?
saturated- meats + dairy (cheese and butter)
mono- avacardoes, some nuts
poly- soy beans, sunflower , corn oils
what are the functions in sport of carbs?
useful for high intensity exercise, can be assessed quickly
provides a continuous supply of energy to cells and working muscles
also supports nerve system
what are the functions of fats in sport?
main source of energy at rest and moderate exercise
fats absorb vitamins
contribute to the release of energy by forming enzymes fats insulate and keep the body warm whilst protecting all vital organs
