How does physical health improve heart function? (4)
- Heart function is improved
- Cardiac hypertrophy
- Increased stroke volume
- Lower resting heart rate
How does physical health reduce the risk of illness? (4)
- Reduced risk of some illnesses
- Increased cardiovascular endurance
- Reduced risk of coronary heart disease
- Lower blood pressure
How does physical health improve efficiency of body system? (5)
- Improved muscular, skeletal and cardiovascular system
- Muscles, ligaments and tendons
- Bones become denser and stronger

What is sedentary life? (3)
- To be inactive
- Little physical activity or none
- Increased risk of overweight, overfat, obesity
What is overweight?
A person who is significantly heavier than their optimum weight
What is overfat?
Too much body weight is fat. More than 19% for men, 20% for woman
What is obesity?
Been extremely overweight, 20% for men 30% for woman above their healthy weight
Impacts on sedentary lifestyle (8)
- Diabetes (type 2) - body fails to produce enough insulin
- CHD - Build of cholesterol in blood stream
- High blood pressure - linked to CHD due to lumen getting smaller
- Increase risk of osteoporosis - lack of weight bearing activity, decreases bone density
- Loss of muscle tone - muscles become weak, muscular atrophy
- Loss of posture - muscles become weak, muscular atrophy
- Negative impacts on COFs - lack of exercise causes a negative effect on fitness
Causes of sedentary lifestyle? (4)
- Less active job
- Improvements in technology
- Labour saving devices
- Increase number of cars
What is diet?
everyone needs to eat a balanced diet that is relevent to their sport
How does diet impact our health? (3)
Too much junk food =
- Less energy
- Diabetes
- Obesity → stress/depression
What is considered a balanced diet?
- CHO, fats, carbs, protein
- Vitamin, minerals
- Fiber and water
What is energy balance?
Calories in = calories out
What is the calorie intake for men and women?
men = 2500
women = 2000
What is activity level?
clear link between calorie intake, exercise levels and weight. If an individual activity level is to low they ris becoming overweight
How does activity level increase the COF? (2)

- Stroke
How does activity level increase PSE? (3)

- Kids = 1hr per day
- Adults = 30min per day
What is work rest and sleep?
balance between training, sufficient rest between sessions and sleep is crucial to ensure a healthy body is maintained

- Increase risk of CHD
- High blood pressure
What are recreational drugs?
alcohol and nicotine both have harmful side effects and can affect performance and cause health issues

What are the 4 effects of smoking on our body and how does affect our health? (4)
- Increase BP and HR
- Lung disease
- Increase risk of CHD
- Addiction
causes a decrease lung capacity (kills alveoli) -insufficient gas exchange
What is alcohol?
Contains chemical ethonal wich acts on the brain it slows reaction and affect judgment
What are the 5 effects of alcohol on our body? (5)
- A drop of glucose levels
- Leads to dehydration
- Dizzy spills
- Unable to concentrate in a game
What are the 2 effects of caffeine on our body? (2)
- Increase alertness
- Makes you become wired
