4 types of guidence?
- Visual

What is visual?
is when a performer can see the skill being performed or practised. It can be shown as a whole movement or, broken down into steps or applied within a real situation.
What is verbal?
is given by an observer after watching your performance, Feedback needs to beconstructiveto help the performer to improve their skill.
What is mechanical?
is when the performer is guided by equipment to support the learner whilst practicing the skill. The use of equipment when practicing a new skill offers safety and allows the learner to gain confidence.
What is manual?
is when a performer is physically guided or supported by the coach. provided in practise
Example of visual? (3)
- demonstration – sometimes by the coach or another performer, usually highlighting certain aspects that are important
- image – a photo, diagram or drawing of the skill
- video – either an example of the skill being performed or a recording of the performer’s own performance
Example of mechanical?
the use of a harness in trampolining when a performer is learning to somersault
Example of manual?
manual guidance is provided when a coach guides an athlete’s arm to mimic a javelin throw
Example of verbal?
- coaching points – given by the coach and relating to the technique of the performance
- feedback – from the coach
- peer feedback – from other performers
- questioning – by the coach so the performer is prompted to self-evaluate
