- Ensure that the hazards of all chemicals produced or imported into the workplace are evaluated and the information is transmitted to employers and workers
- Prevent illness, injury or death from exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances in the workplace

Management
Management provides workers with a company policy statement that includes the following:
- Statement indicating that the company is committed to protecting the health and safety of its workers
- Statement that all workers will be informed of the Hazard Communication Standard requirements
- Statement indicating that all workers will be informed of known hazardous substances that can cause illness, injury or death
- Statement that all workers will be trained at time of hire, when they move to an area of new hazard, or when a hazard is introduced into the workplace
- Identification of individuals who will be responsible implementing and managing the hazard communication program
- Statement that affirms there will be an annual review and update of the company’s hazard communication program
Management should provide a written program that includes:
- List of hazardous chemicals present in the workplace and title of person responsible for updating the list
- Description of policy for proper labeling of chemical containers
- Preparation of material safety data sheets
- Description of training content and documentation of worker training about hazards of chemicals and measures that can be taken to protect workers
Policy for proper labeling of chemical containers should include:
- Titles of persons responsible for ensuring container labeling on a day to day basis and for proper labeling of all containers, including those used for shipping of chemicals
