Halogens 3.1.3 Flashcards
What is the trend of Atomic Radius in the Halogens?
Increases down the group
How does Boiling Point change in the Halogens?
Increase down the group
this is due to the molecules being diatomic and having more electroons, leading to greater induced dipole-dipole interaction.
How does Reactivity change in the Halogens?
Decrease down the group as there is less attraction between the nucleus and outer shells
Therefore isn’t as capable of attracting electrons
What is the trend of Halogens and Oxidising agents?
Halogens become weaker oxidising agents down the periodic table.
due to being less reactive
Waht colour are the Halogens when Aqueous?
Chlorine: Pale green
Bromine: Orange
Iodine: Red/Brown
What colour ar ethe Halogens when shaken with Cyclohexane?
Chlorine: White/yellow
Bromine: Orange/brown
Iodine: Purple/red (beatroot)
