Amounts of Substance 2.1.3 Flashcards
Define Mole.
The amount of substance which contains the same number of atoms (or ions or molecules) as there are atoms in 12g of carbon-12
What is Avagadro’s Constant?
The number of atoms (or ions or molecules) in one mole of a substance
What is Molar Mass?
The mass of a substance that conatains one mole of that substance
What is Molar Gas Volume?
The number of moles of gas in 1dm^3
What is Molecular Formula?
The actual number of atoms present in each molecule
What is Empirical Formula?
The simplest ratio of the number of atoms of each element present in the molecule
What equation links Mass, Relative Formula Mass and Number of Moles?
Moles = Mass/Relative Formula Mass Mol = mass/Mr
What equation links Number of Moles, Volume and 24dm^3 ?
Moles = Volume/24dm^3 Mol = vol/24dm^3
What equation links Concentration, Volume and Number of Moles?
Moles = Concentration x Volume Mol = con x vol
What is Mass Concentration the same as?
Density
Mass/Volume
How do you convert from cm^3 → dm^3 ?
cm^3 / 1000 = dm^3
