What does animism mean?
It is the religious belief of natives.
How do native people raise their children?
They allow them to learn through experience rather than punishment.
Why did different aboriginal groups go to war against each other?
To ensure that their tribe has the necessary resources to survive, or to demonstrate their superiority in warfare.
What was the role of a shaman?
He was the spiritual leader, he guided tribe members, he gave advice, he interpreted dreams. (tip: think of him as a priest is to catholic people)
What connection do native have with the environment?
They have a profound respect for the environment and never abuse it. They do not take or use more than they need.
What was the purpose of a vision quest?
It marked the beginning and entrance into manhood or a native boy.
Who would be able to help a native person interpret a vision?
the shaman
what are some of the qualities a chief possessed?
he possessed skills that the people respected. He was a fair person, a good hunter, a wise man, and might even have superior warfare skills.
describe the circle of life.
it is the belief that everything is connected in the environment. (example: antelope are eaten by the lions or people, their bodies disintegrate and become the ground from which grass grows, and the antelope est the grass etc…it is a circular connection)
