what is the most widely accepted theory of migration with regards to North American Aboriginal people?
The Bering Strait Theory. We believe that during the last ice-age a land barrier was created on the ocean allowing Natives to migrate to North America via a land route on the Bering Strait

Arctic, Northern Canada
In what geographic region do the Iroquois live?
St-Laurence Lowlands
Who were the domiciles?
They were native people who adopted European lifestyles and some even converted to Christianity. The domicilies tended to live near French settlements.
What contributed most to an increase in the population of New France?
Natural growth (a high birth rate)
Compare and contrast the demographic situation in New France in 1608 and in 1763.

How were the aboriginals influenced by the European presence?
They incorporated some European tools into their culture, alcohol, new food etc.
What caused a significant decrease in Native populations in during the 17th century?
European presence led to wars and disease amongst natives.
How was life different for the settlers in New France than in France?
It was cold, the people lived in isolation, they had to be more self sufficient, the people adopted on language/dialect of French.
What measures were introduced by the Royal Administration to help increase the population?
Jean-Talon brought in;
- les filles du roi
- soldiers (carrignans sallieres)
- engages (hired workers)
Describe the social order in New France.
You had 3 levels;
- The Nobility
- The Clergy
- The Third Estate
Why was it easier to move up in the social order in New France rather than France?
There were fewer people in New France and therefore more opportunities to prove your self or work your way into a higher social class. For example some farmers who were part of the third estate ended up becoming seigneurs and moving up in the social class system.
Why was there an overwhelming amount of men compared to women during the early to mid 17th century?
Many of the people who came here were soldiers or men who were interested in working in the fur trade. The fur trade did not require women.
What was the role of the Company of 100 Associates with regards to the population of New France?
They were supposed to bring in settlers from France.
