Poorly built housing built very close together, no sanitary measures or sewage systems, very dangerous and dirty.
Which parts of Canada were being settled following Confederation?
Western Canada. New provinces were created Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
How did settlement of the Western territories have a negative impact on aboriginals?
Nomadic tribes who relied on subsistence activities and hunting found their way of life threatened when land was being settled. The buffalo was becoming more scarce and natives eventually had no choice but to sell their land and move to reserves.
Describe the immigration Act of the 1950s.
Very racists, prejudice, restrictive.
How was immigration affected by both World Wars?
Immigration was put on hold. the government was too busy with the war and we were xenophobic. (fearful of people from foreign countries)

It favors immigrants who are french and who would have an easy time adjusting to our society and culture.
