They took over control of certain natural resources (belonging to the provinces) in order to help with the war. They also raised income taxes,

Why were Canadian Japanese sent to internment camps?

A

Japan was an enemy country and during WWII the War Measures act was put in place. This allowed the government to suspend civil liberties (people’s rights) and put Japanese Canadians into interment camps since they could be spies or leaking information enemy countries. .

Why did Conscription cause tension in Canada?

A

The Prime Minister Makenzie King had promised that he would not force people to join the military unless ABSOLUTELY necessary. By 1942 it was necessary. English Canada thought that it was ok for him to conscript but French Canadians were against it.
