What is the purpose of the probationary period?
it is an opportunity to train officers on job tasks, conduct, observance of rules and regulations, attendance and other job responsibilities
What is the minimum amount of time for the probationary period?
18 months from date of appointment
How long can the probationary period be extended for?
Up to 36 months
What is the Probationary Review Board comprised of?
MPA Commanding Official (who will serve as chairperson), Field Training Program Coordinator, Field Training Program District Coordinators (Captains)
What is the Probationary Review Panel comprised of?
At least three field training sergeants
What does the probationary period include?
The initial training program (Academy), Field Training Program, a period of service (certification) and a recommendation from the Probationary Review Panel to the Probationary Review Board
For which reasons can the probationary period be extended?
less than full duty status or fail to successfully complete training requirements.
When will probationary officers be evaluated?
No earlier than the 14th month but no later than the 16th month by the Review Panel; no later by the 18th month by the Review Board.
In order to participate in the evaluation, probationary officers must..
-be in a full duty status
-successfully completed their medical evaluation
-Be certified by their district
-completed their community project or beat book
