generalisation in a quantitative research Flashcards
what is generalization
means drawing inferences from resluts of s tudy to something outside the study
external validity
- is a characteristic of generalizability of findings to other people and other situations.
population validity
sample is often relatively small and therefore the sample is not considered statistcally representative of the population.
- refers to the extent to which findings can be generalized from the sample to the target population. it depends on how represenattive the sample is.
ecological validity
refers to the extent to which findings can be generalized from the experiment to other settings or situations.
- the more closely the experimental procedure apporximates real-life situations, the hger the ecological validity of the experiment.
construct validity
characteristic of teh quality of operationalizations. Operationalization express constructs in terms of observable behavour.
