Gases - Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures Flashcards
1
Q
dalton’s law of partial pressures
A
- Ptotal = Pa + Pb + Pc + …………..
- the total pressure of a mixture of gases is equal to the sum of all of the partial pressures of each gas in the mixture
- gases flow spontaneously from a region of higher partial pressure to a region of lower partial pressure
- important in respiration

Q
a flask contains xenon, oxygen and chlorine gases. the partial pressures of each are 15.6 Torr, 13.2 Torr, and 8.3 Torr respectively. what is the total pressure in the flask?
A
- total pressure = xenon + oxygen + chlorine
- 15.6 + 13.2 + 8.3 = 37.1
