Q

molarity of strong acids

A
  • molarity is equal to [H+] for monoprotic acids, 0.10M HCl -> 0.10M H+ + 0.10M Cl-
  • sulfuric acid is only strong diprotic acid, 0.10M H2SO4 -> 2(0.10M) H+ + 0.10M SO4^2-

Q

molarity is equal to [OH-] for monobasic bases

  • 0.023M naOH -> 0.023M Na+ + 0.023M OH-
  • formula unit for dibasic bases:
    0. 023M Ca(OH)2 -> 0.023M Ca^2+ + 2(0.023M) OH-
A
  • pOH = -log[OH-]
  • -log [0.023M]
  • pOH = 1.64
  • pH = 14 - 1.64 = 12.36
    • -log[2(0.23M)] (Ca(OH)2
    • pOH = 1.34
    • pH = 12.66
