Basic, Acidic, and Neutral Salt Solutions Flashcards

1
Q

basic, acidic, and neutral salt solutions

A
  • salt solutions can be acidic, basic, or neutral depending on their interaction with the water in which they are dissolved
  • NaOH + HF -> NaF + H2O (salt of strong base and weak acid)
  • NaF -> Na+ + F-
  • F- + HOH -> HF + OH- ([OH-] increases, basic solution)
  • NH3 + HBr -> NH4Br (salt of weak base and strong acid)
  • NH4Br -> NH4+ + Br-
  • NH4+ +H2O -> NH3 + H3O+ ([H3O+] increases, acidic solution)
  • NaOH + HCl -> NaCL + H2O (salt of strong base and strong acid)
  • Na+ + H2O -> No reaction
  • Cl- + H2O -> no reaction (no increases, neutral solution)
