Fuel Flashcards

1
Q

How many fuel pumps does the aircraft have and how many are gravity feeding?

A

6 pumps but only 4 have gravity feeding. The center tanks do not have gravity feeding.

2 fuel pumps (x 2) each inner tank and 2 fuel pumps for the center tank

Q

What do the Low Pressure Fuel valves for?

A

Transfer fuel from the fuel system to the engines. May be turned off when the engine master switch is turned off or when the Fire pb is pushed

16
Q

Some fuel is diverted to cool what system?

A

The IDG or Integrated Drive Generator

17
Q

When do the fuel pumps on the ECAM page turn to amber?

A

When the pumps are manually shut off from the Fuel panel

18
Q

What does it mean when there is a dual amber line on the last two digits of the fuel quantity?

A

The Fuel Quantity Indicator is inacurate

19
Q

What do the vent surge tanks do?

A

Temporary storage during thermal expansion and aircraft movement

20
Q

What is the purpose of the crossbleed valve?

A

To correct a fuel imbalance or allow one engine to be fed by both sides

21
Q

Which pumps have no gravity feeding capability?

A

Center tank pumps

22
Q

What is the purpose of the fuel tank inerting system?

A

To reduce flammability inside the fuel tanks by introducing very low oygen

23
Q

When does the APU fuel pump operate?

A

When no other pump is running

24
Q

Why is the center tank consumed first?

A

To avoid wing bending, light wings, heavy fuselage

25
Q

How does the fuel recirculation system work?

A

Part of the fuel is taken to cool the IDG, then the fuel travels through the outer tanks and are spilled into the inner tanks. When the wings are full, the center tanks stop. When the wings are below the full level, the center tanks operate again
