Q

On the FMA, what is the difference between Speed and Thrust modes on the Auto Thrust column?

A

Speed mode: pitch mode controls the vertical rate, speed is constant. an example would be when speed mode is used on finals with flight directors off.

Thrust mode: pitch adjusts and thrust follows. We adjust the pitch to get a target speed. Example: Expedite descent, climb and descent modes
