On the FMA, what is the difference between Speed and Thrust modes on the Auto Thrust column?
Speed mode: pitch mode controls the vertical rate, speed is constant. an example would be when speed mode is used on finals with flight directors off.
Thrust mode: pitch adjusts and thrust follows. We adjust the pitch to get a target speed. Example: Expedite descent, climb and descent modes
Give 4 examples of when the auto thrust is in Speed mode.
V/S or FPA, G/S, ALT
When do the auto thrust arm?
When the thrust levers are set to the take off setting
After take off, the engines are in the armed mode when in TOGA or Flex, when does the auto thrust activate?
Setting the levers to the Climb detent
The auto thrust will remain engaged between which detents?
Two engines: Between Climb and Idle detents
SEO: Between MCT and Idle detents
What happens when the thrust lever on a 2 engine operating, are moved further than the climb detent or SEO, further than the MCT detent?
