Exterior Safety Inspection

A

Exterior Safety Inspection
Check:
• Chocks in place
• Landing gear door position
• Flight control surfaces clear
• APU exhaust area clear (unless APU running)
Warning ! When any gear door is open, check that the respective door
handle release is in the “doors open” position. If the handle
is in the “doors closed” position and the doors are open,
pressurizing hydraulic systems #1 or #4 will close the doors
and can result in personal injury.

Q

CDU Preflight Procedure - Captain and First Officer

A

Start the CDU Preflight Procedure anytime after the Preliminary Flight Deck Procedure.

The Initial Data and Navigation Data entries must be complete before the flight instrument check during the Flight Deck Procedure.

The Performance Data entries must be complete before the Before Start Checklist.

Note: Do not enter data in the CRZ CG.
• Failure to enter enroute winds can result in flight plan time and fuel burn errors.

Navigation data.................................................... Set

Initial performance data ………………………………………… Set
PERF INIT page

ACARS ………………………………………………………………………….. Enter INIT DATA

Request takeoff performance after receiving the Load Manifest

Note: Load Manifest is the general term for either the Sable
computerized “loadsheet” or manual “W&B Record” (Trim Sheet).
See “Flight Deck Performance - Takeoff” on page SP.20.16 as needed.

When FDP takeoff data is received, both pilots review/verify the following:
• WIND, OAT, QNH
• CG, GRWT, FUEL, ZFW
• REMARKS / CAUTIONS
• Runway / intersection
• MTOW
• Thrust (THR, ATM, and Pack configuration)
• Engine Failure Procedure

Note: If using a TLR, see TLR Procedures on page SP.20.37

FDP must be updated when:
• A performance related DDG item is added or removed
• There is a significant change in environmental conditions that
would affect performance (e.g., change of wind direction/speed,
lower altimeter setting, higher temperature, runway surface
conditions/contaminates)
• The departure runway is not shown on the FDP or an intersection takeoff distance shorter than planned.

Final performance data [PF] ……………………………………………………………… Set

Warning ! Do not enter the ZFW into the GR WT boxes. The FMC
will calculate performance data with significant errors.

Note: Selecting VNAV before completing the Performance Data will cause the FMC alert message PERF/VNAV UNAVAILABLE.

Use FDP for entries. If FDP is not available, use Load Manifest and TLR.
