Hazard awareness questions
A
- What is the occupancy?
- Where are the occupants? (once out, slow down)
- Where is the fire? (attic, cellar, voids,)
- How do we get in?
- How do we get out when things go wrong?
- Never put yourself in a position where you are depending on someon else to come get you.
- Always know where your escape route is.
- Always know where your 2nd escape route is.
- What is happening to the building?
- Backdraft ptotential?
- Flashover?
- Structural stability?

Steps to take if cut off by fire
A
- Find refuge. Close as many doors between you and the fire as possible.
- Call for help by every means possible.
- Seek another escape route or refuge.

Mayday situations
A
- Injury that prevents immediate escape
- SCBA low air with exit beyond range
- Entrapped for more than 30 seconds
- Disoriented for more than 30 seconds
- Missing or unaccounted for member 60+ seconds
- Unconscious FF or life threatening injury or medical
- Collapse, backdraft, flashover, other sudden development that make conditions untenable or blocked escape route
- Imminent collapse that would endanger members.

RIT size up (beyond COAL WAS WEALTH)
A
- Request size up of bld. by radio while en route (size, construction, occupancy, fire location)
- Monitor tac for Maydays
- At scene, perform RIT size up of bld, occupancy, fire location
- Obtain bld. floor plan, command chart, know locations of units and their routes of access
- Monitor the progress of operations
