Final Review - SCI Flashcards
Complete Injury
absence of motor/sensory function in the s4-5 dermatome
Incomplete Injury
A preservation of sensation in the S4-5 dermatome and/or preservation of voluntary anal contraction
UMN Injury
Increased tone/spasticity/reflexes, weakness/paralysis, preservation of muscle bulk
LMN Injury
Decreased muscle tone - flaccidity, absent reflexes, weakness/paralysis, muscle atrophy, disimpaction
Automatic Dysreflexia
85% of ppl with SCL at/above T6; common with complete; after spinal shock resloves; exaggerated increase in blood pressure in response to a noxious stim arising from below the level of SCI; loss of inhib supraspinal control
Causes of Automatic Dysreflexia
Genitourinary (75) - bladder/urine/testical
Gastrointestinal (25) - fecal, abdomen, peptic ulcer
Pressure ulcer stages
I - nonblanchable erythma/induration/edema
II - partial thickness skin loss, abrasion, blister
III - full thickness skin loss up to facia
IV - damage to muscle/bone
Pulmonary levels
Diaphragm - C3-5
