Factors Population Density And Distributon Flashcards
Densely physical reasons
Coastal environment and those with rivers provide good access and allow trading to occur encouraging the growth of economic activity
Location with favorable climate tend to be more densely populated as food can be produced and it provides more comfortable environment to live in
Region where it is flat are easier it build on and develop
Availability of natural resources encourages a higher population density as these can be processed and used in industry and manufacturing
Fertile land attracts higher population density as food can be produced
Reliable water supply encourage a high population density as water can be used for drinking washing transportation and irrigation
Densely economic reasons
The availability of jobs and economic activities within the region lead to an increase in population density
Location with an effective infrastructure including transport, energy, water, and sanitation are usually densely populated
A good transport infrastructure attracts a high population density as people are able to travel and commute easily it also allows the free movement of goods which leads to the development of industry providing jobs to the people in the local area
Densely social reason
Low crime rate can encourage people to move to an area leading to a high population density
Densely political reason
Public service including education and health care attract people leading to higher population density
Sparsely physical reason
Mountainous areas make it hard to construct buildings and roads. They are often inaccessible and remote
Areas with extreme climate such as hot and cold deserts make it difficult to grow and access water
Region with dense vegetation cover such as rainforest provide challenge in terms of access and lack of service make human inhabitation very difficult
Flood plains present risk of flooding so building on them is often prohibited
A lack of resources in an area present significant challenges to economic development
If land is infertile humans are unable to grow food leading to low population
Location that regularly experience natural hazards can discourage people from settling in an area
Sparsely economic reason
Regions with little or no economic opportunities tend to be sparsely populated as people are unable to secure a regular crime
Location with little to no infrastructure including transport, energy, water, and sanitation don’t attract significant number of people
Poor transportation infrastructure provides considerable challenges especially with regards accessibility leading to low population density
Sparsely social reason
High level of crime discourage people from settling in an area leading to low population density
Sparsely political reason
Poor public service including education and healthcare discourage people from living in an area leading to low population
Civil war and persecution can lead to LPD as people move to escape violence
Government corruption can lead to LDP
