Density And Distribution Flashcards
Physical factors densely populated
Coastal areas-provide good water sources and allow trading to occur
Favourable climate
Regions with flat relief are easier to build and develop
Availability of natural resources encourages a higher population as it can be used in industry and manufacturing
Regions with no natural disaster
Fertile land attracts density as food can be produced
Reliable water supply encourages a high population density as water can be used for drinking, washing transportation and irrigation
Physical factors sparsely population
Mountainous areas make it difficult to construct buildings and roads. They are often inaccessible and remote
Extreme climate-make it difficult to grow crops
Regions with dense vegetation-lack of services make human inhabitants very difficult
Flood plains present risk of flooding so building on them is often prohibited
Lack of natural resource in an area present significant challenges to economic development
Infertile humans are unable to grow food leading to a low population density
Location that experience natural hazards can discourage people from settling
Economic factors for densely populated
The availability of jobs and economic activities within the region leads to an increase in population density
Locations with an ineffective infrastructure, including transport, energy, water and sanitation are usually densely populated
Good transport infrastructure attracts a high population density as people are able to travel and commute easily.
Economic factor sparsely populated
Regions with little or no economic opportunities tend to be sparsely populated as people are unable to secure a regular income
Location with little or no infrastructure including transport, energy, water, and sanitation don’t attract significant number of people
Poor transport infrastructure provides considerable challenges especially with regards accessibility leading to a low population density
Social factor sparsely populated
High level of crime discourage people from settling in an area
Social factor densely populated
Low crime rate can encourage people to move to an area
Political factor sparsely populated
Poor public services including education and healthcare discourage people from living in an area. Leading to a low population
Civil war and persecution can lead to a low population density as people move to escape violence
Government corruption can also lead to a low population density
Political factor densely populated
Effective public services, including education and healthcare, attract people leading to a higher population density
A safe, reliable government can encourage people to a country, leading to an increased population density
