14
Q

Role of tongue and soft palate in swallowing

A

Soft palate is initially tensed to allow the tongue to press against it, squeezing the bolus of food to the back of the oral cavity proper - the soft palate is then elevated posteriorly and superiorly against the wall of the pharynx, thereby preventing passage of food into the nasal cavity

Q

What are the bones that form the orbit?

A
  1. Orbital part of the frontal bone
  2. Ethmoid bone
  3. Frontal process of the zygomatic bone and greater wing of sphenoid
  4. Maxilla and partly by zygomatic and palantine bones
  5. Lesser wing of the sphenoid

17
Q

Innervation to the extraocular muscles

A

LR6SO4AO3

  • lateral rectus - CN VI
  • superior oblique - CN IV
  • all others CN III
18
Q

Arterial supply of the orbit

A

Opthalmic artery - branch of the internal carotid artery

19
Q

What does the soft palate separate?

A

Posterior part of the oral cavity from the nasopharynx superior to it

22
Q

Lacrimal glands

A

Secrete lacrimal fluid (tears) via parasympathetic impulses from CN VII
