conformity reduced on task involving visual judgements if dissenter present who even wore glasses and admitted to having a sight problem
What does Allen and Levine’s finding suggest?(dissenters)
dissenters help resist social influence even when they aren’t skilled in particular situations
What did Asch find?(answering correctly)
- is a dissenter who answers correctly from start of study, conformity drops from 32%-5.5%
- if confederate dissents later, conformity only drops to 8.5%
What do Asch’s findings suggests?
social support received earlier is more effective
What did Milgram find?(two confederates)
when two confederates paired with real participant early on, 10% of participants gave maximum shock
What do Milgrams findings suggest?
creating of a group norm of disobedience put the participants under pressure to conform to the behaviour of confederate
