Exocrine Pancreas Flashcards
Functional unit
Accinus = acinar cells (for enzymes synthesis, storage, secretion)
Duct system = modifies aqueous secretions
Acinar cells
digestive enzymes produced on its endoplasmic reticulum
Proteolytic enzymes
Chymotrypsinogen + trypsinogen (n the inactive zymogen form)
In the duodenum:
Trypsinogen → trypsin (activated by entero peptidases)
Chymotrypsinogen → chymotrypsin (activated by trypsin)
Lipase
Digests triglycerides to monoglycerides, diglycerides + free fatty acids
Amylase
Starch + maltose (disaccharide) to smaller carbs
Vagal innervation to pancreas?
= stimulated enzyme secretion
Occurs when see/smell/taste food + stretch receptors
Effect of acidic chyme entering duodenum?
Stimulates S cells to release secretin
Secretin causes pancreatic cell to secrete alkaline pancreatic juices
Fatty acids in chyme trigger…
…duodenal cells to release cholecystokinin (CCK)
Causes digestive enzyme secretion in pancreas
Stimulates bile secretion via gall bladder contraction
