**EXAM1- YMCA Cycle Ergometer Test Flashcards
YMCA cycle ergometer test
-submaximal test, graded
-2-4 3 minute stages
YMCA cycle ergometer test adjusts based on
HR
what is important in this test
to get 2 stags above 110 bpm
when is HR taken
at end of 2nd + 3rd minute
between minutes 2 + 3, HR must…
be within 5bpm apart to be steady state
-if HR is more than 5 bpm apart, you must continue in the same stage until steady state is reached
when are BP + RPE taken
at end of 2nd minute
YMCA cycle ergometer test protocol
-calculate APMHR (220-age)
-explain test + purpose to client
-adjust height of seat for client; when pedal is at lowest point of rotation, knee of client should be 25 degrees or less from full extension
-client should start pedaling at 50 rpm + keep pace through entire test; client should be pedaling before resistance is adjusted
-if no rpm monitor on cycle ergometer, set metronome to 100 for proper pace
-warmup for 2-3 min at same intensity as first stage (150 kgm/min); stage 1 begins at same workload
-in subsequent stages, assess HR at end of 2nd + 3rd minute; must be within 5 bpm to be considered steady state, if not steady state continue for another minute
-client continues until they reach 2 stages above 110 bpm; client must stop if they reach 85% of APMHR
-following the completion of 2 stags above 110 bpm, take the data + graphically/mathematically estimate VO2 max
