What is the common name for Tabanus spp?

Describe the appearance of the Tabanus spp adult
Stout-bodied fly 10-50 mm, mouthparts slashing and sponging.
*Note: live fly will typically not have pin through body as seen in picture
Describe the life cycle of Tabanus spp
After blood meal, female lays several hundred eggs in muddy or marshy areas, on vegetation and stones.
Eggs hatch in 1-2 weeks to sluggish larvae. Develop in 3 months-3 years.
Adult fly emerges from pupae in 1-3 weeks.
Complete life cycle is 4-5 months or longer
