- L1 is passed in the feces or vomitus and does not hatch until ingested by an intermediate host
- In the intermediate host, larva develops to L3 and encysts.
- When the paratenic or intermediate host is ingested by the final host the L3 is liberated and develops to the adult stage in the stomach.
- The nematodes live with the anterior end embedded in the mucosa
