Exam 3 Part 5 Flashcards
Autonomic nervous system
involuntary; conveys info from CNS to:
smooth muslce in organs, blood vessels, respiratory system
cardiac muscle (affects rate)
glands (sweat, salivary, some endocrine)
SNS vs ANS
sensory neurons-same: carry signal from PNS receptor to CNS
motor neurons are different
SNS motor neurons
1 neuron from CNS to effector (skeletal muscles)
ANS motor neurons
2 neurons
preganglionic neuron -axon extends from CnS to autonomic ganglion
glanglionic neuron-axon extends from autonomic ganglion to effector (smooth muscle or gland) or cardiac muscle
autonomic ganglia
located in head, neck, abdomen, and in chains along either side of spinal cord; synapses occur here
benefit: better communication and central
ANS divisions
has 2 divisions that differ in origin of preganglionic neurons and location of autonomic ganglion
sympathic and parasympathetic
