Primary or secondary equine sinusitis
A
- ** unilateral nasal discharge ( especially mucopurulent and odorous )** = common sign
- causes: resp infection, tooth root abscess, neoplasia, cyst, progressive ethmoid hematoma, trauma, or fungal granuloma
- Dx - rads, endoscope/ sinuscope, dental pick and culture of purulent discharge
** fluid lines within the sinus –> indicate accumulation of purulent material
Tx - primary - lavage of sinuses and systemic abs
- secondary - depends on cause ; may need to extract a tooth, flush sinuses, and administer systemic abs
