what is epiglottis?
A
the inflammation and swelling of the epiglottis

what causes epiglottis?
A
bacterial infection , typically due to Haemophilus Influenza type B, less commonly due to streptococcus pneumoniae, and viral infection (varicella zoster virus, herpes simplex virus) and fungal infections (only people with compromised immune system get this)

what are the symptoms of epiglottis?
A
drooling, difficulty + pain swallowing, muffled/ hoarse voice, irritability + restlessness, breathing that sounds abnormal or high pitched, difficulty breathing and high temp

what treatment is there for epiglottitis?
A
secure airways with ET tube and urgent IV antibiotics (vancomycin, clindamycin or ceftriaxone)
