A

a viral lower respiratory tract infection that affects children aged between 0-2 and causes inflammation of bronchioles, obstructing them

what are the causes for bronchiolitis?

A

80% of the time its caused by the respiratory syncytial virus, also caused my metapneumovirus

what is the presentation for mild bronchiolitis?

A

cough, coryza, wheeze, tachypnoea and poor feeding

what is presentation for severe bronchiolitis?

A

decreased PaO2, grunting and intercostal/sternal indrawing

A

can do a swab test in the nose and PCR

what are the complications for bronchiolitis?

A

apnea (cessation of breathing), aspiration pneumonia, dehydration, resp + cardiac failure

A

if severe should be brought into hospital and the child should be monitored however no treatment to kill the respiratory syncopal virus
