long term inflammation of lungs due to exposure to asbestos
what is the cause of asbestosis?
long term exposure and inhalation of asbestos fibres
what kinds of asbestos are most and least dangerous?
most- blue least-white
what occupations may mean you’re more exposed to asbestos? (5)

- electrician
- construction worker
- demolition worker
- heating and ventilation engineers
what are the symptoms of asbestosis?
- progressive dyspnoea
- clubbing
- fine end inspiratory crackles
what investigations are taken place?
CXR
what would appear on the CXR if someone has asbestosis?
pulmonary fibrosis and dense calcified pleural plaques
what are the complications of asbestosis?
increased risk of developing lung cancer, mesothelia and pleural disease
what’s the treatment for asbestosis?
there’s no cure, so symptoms management such as oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, lifestyle change such as stop smoking
