enzymes Flashcards
saturation point
when no more substrates can enter the enzyme
enzyme inhibitor
a molecule that binds to an enzyme and prevents it from working
competitive enzyme
prevents substrate from from binding by blocking an active site
non competitive inhibition
a non competitive inhibitor binding to a site that is not the active site (allosteric site) to change the shape of the enzyme
reversible inhibitions
competitive inhibitor forms a weak bond with the active site
irreversible inhibitions
inhibitor doesnt break bonds with the active site, reaction never occurs
biochemical pathway
enzyme - catalysed reactions, product of one reaction becomes substrate of the other
cofactor
organic or inorganic that help in enzyme function
